Level 2 – Swimming lessons for 6 – 12 year olds
Depending on their age when starting to learn to swim, most of this age group are already water borne and ready to move up to more advanced stroke correction. Diving, tumble-turns, finishes and underwater breath control are important factors here. Life Saving Week is very popular as swimming is not only a recreational sport in a pool, but also in rivers, dams, and the sea, so we teach life-saving on a regular basis.
Freestyle, or front crawl, Backstroke, Breastroke and Butterfly are taught in full, as well as the survival strokes, floating, treading water, underwater breath control, retrieving objects from the deep end. Fine tuning the strokes to make proficient and quicker swimmers. Stamina training and sprints.
Children are very competitive and we must encourage a healthy competitive spirit, whilst developing a love for the sport without causing a “burn-out” situation, which is common amongst the coaches as they expect the children to commit to many long hours of training. I believe that children should always play a team sport as well as an individual sport, Swimming is classified as individual and can be quite a lonely sport when training for 5 to 6 hours a day. Also it requires a huge amount of commitment to the sport as most of these hours are early in the morning or later in the day. Children under the age of 15 are still growing and too much exercise in certain body positions can cause developmental irregularities.
We teach all aspects of the individual strokes, dives, turns, stamina and speed programmes, FINA rules, basic gala readiness, swimming in teams, relays, squads etc. Time control and also the physical aspects of too much or too little exercise according to the various growth levels of each individual.
Our Level 2 teachers are qualified and experienced to teach all aspects of each
